Description

The Professional Association of Dutch Urban Designers and Planners, abbreviated BNSP, was formed on 30 June 1998 from a merger of the BNS Association of Dutch Urban Designers, founded on 21 December 1935, and the BNP Association of Dutch Planners, founded on 13 May 1991.

The association is an association of professionals, agencies and institutes, (parts of) government organisations, non-profit organisations and educational institutions working in spatial planning, spatial research, urban development and planning.

The association’s objectives are:

1. a) to represent the interests of its members;
2. b) to promote good professional practice and a consistently high level of professional quality among urban planners and planners;
3. c) to promote and communicate the social importance of the professional fields, the professional groups and the association;
4. d) to promote good relations among members and between members, clients and social groups involved in spatial planning.

The association achieves its objectives by:

• representing Dutch urban designers and planners nationally and internationally;
• drawing up and enforcing quality and conduct rules;
• initiating and participating in studies, explorations and other projects;
• organising and supporting competitions;
• contributing, where possible, to the quality of training programmes for the profession;
• providing information and publishing statements, manifestos and announcements;
• playing an active role in professional and social discussions in the areas in which the association is active;
• providing internal and external advice;
• acting as an intermediary between client and contractor when requested;
• and all other activities that support the objectives of the association.
